Dr. Marquia Whitehead
Educator, Owner, Entrepreneur, and Motivational Speaker
Who is the face of Miss Educated?
It all started on a beautiful day in Dallas, Texas; this is when the world just became brighter. I was born! Ok...ok, enough of that!
Hey, everyone and welcome to this blog! My name is Marquia, better known as "Dr.Kia." I was born in Dallas, Texas, but adopted to a wonderful family in Louisiana. Growing up, I always had a love for words and writing. At the age of three, I was reading out of the newspaper and my mother would allow me to highlight the words that I did not know. Then, she would allow me to use the dictionary to look up the words that were foreign. My grandmother, who was not a college graduate, was a very smart lady. She would help me with reading and always encouraged me to do so. Fast forward, I continued to develop a love for literature and writing. One of my English teachers in high school, Mrs. M. Perry, would always push me to do more with the English language. Between her and my grandmother, both of their literary motivation assisted in life. Nevertheless, and along with my drama queen personality, I knew that I would eventually revisit my love for writing.
I finished my Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication with a minor in Marketing. Afterwards, I was not exactly sure of what I wanted to do. Honestly, I thought I would be a big Public Relations Guru for a Fortune 500 company. I was wrong and the Lord had other plans for my life. I finished my Master of Arts degree in English. I have recently completed my Doctorate in Education in Educational Leadership, with a Professional Writing Certification. Currently, I am an English Instructor, a children's Mental Health Specialist, and traveling teacher. Do you want to know the most fascinating thing? I am only 27 and also have heart and lung disease. I have not allowed any of this to stop me; in fact, I think I allow them to put fuel to the fire.
I always wondered where I would be in life, but now I know. Finally, I know! My goal is to show other children, especially those who have been adopted, that there is hope at the end. My goal is to show the teen mother, the sick, depressed individual, and whomever else, that life may not be the best now, but it is up to YOU to change the current situation. As a student, mom, and overall successful woman, I would not change a thing. My family is my family, regardless if I was adopted. I appreciate them and forever appreciative for their love. Finally, I would like to give thanks to my wonderful mother and father, my son (although he's young, he has pushed me more than he knows), my grandmother (who is now my angel), all of my family who has motivated me, my high school English teachers and, of course, my real friends/sister/sorors. Last, but not least, much thanks to my previous boss who pushed me to use my talents and "work for myself."Above all, I have to give enormous praise to the Man Above for not only giving me the talent, but also bestowing the wisdom to utilize them! If it was not for Him.... *sigh*
I just want to use my talents and show the world! Once I realized that I could not be the queen of the world, I figured that being an English guru would work instead. Hmmm... I guess that will work for now. Thanks for visiting my page and I hope that I can assist you with your writing needs! *kisses*
